You've got your website designed and now you want people to see it. Here are some things you can do to promote your site so people find it.

1. Send an email to your family, friends and business associates who are online.  Ask them to add a link to your site on their websites. Include "Information needed to submit a website link to other sites" with your request. Offer to add a link to their sites on yours.

2. Add your website address to your email signature, your business/group's letterhead, envelopes, newsletter header, business cards, event flyers, etc.

3. Announce your website at meetings and events.

4. Send a short (1 page) press release announcing your website to local and state media, organizations you belong to, newsletters and email listservs you subscribe to, and message boards you post to. Ask them to add a link to your site.

5. While surfing the web, add your website link to sites where you would like to see your website listed such as search engines, state sites, tourism, business sites. The info you will need to do this is included below these tips.

6. Send an email to websites that you have links to. Say something like "We have listed a link to your site at http://www.mysite.com/links.html. Please add a link to www.mysite.com on your site."

7. Add a "post a link" page to your site which has these tips on it and requests visitors to "add a link", "submit a link." See this site's "Add a Link" page for an example.

8. Consider starting a free email list and/or message board for PPBA. You can get a free email listserv very easily at http://groups.yahoo.com/ List your website on the free website that comes with your email list and emails that go out from your list. You can get a free message board at http://www.bravenet.com

9. Consider adding a free banner exchange, like LinkExchange, http://adnetwork.bcentral.com/, to your website. How it works is you would put a banner at the bottom of pages on your website. For every two visits made to your website, the banner exchange would put your banner on someone else's page. The banners sell things but they can significantly increase visitors to your website. The banners also function as a counter (counts visits only to each page; no stat info).

10. Try an online website promotion service. There are numerous free promotion websites listed at www.bravenet.com  If you're willing to spend the time doing your own site promotion, you should never have to pay to promote your site. If you have the $$$ and want someone else to do the job, Microsoft's bCentral! offers a variety of good low-cost promotion services.
